Photographing animals in captivity while not entirely satisfying does offer some opportunities that would be difficult to recreate in the wild. Some extremely rare animals can be seen and photographed albeit in artificial environments. There are specific difficulties associated with limited viewing access, intervening glass or bars and the often atypical behaviour patterns of the animals. Nevertheless I present here a few images taken in Dublin Zoo, which was established in the mid 19th century and Chester Zoo.
